Mark Campbell Short bio Mark Campbell has written 47 opera librettos, 7 musicals, 9 song cycles, and 5 oratorios. His works include Silent Night, The (R)evolution of Steve Jobs, The Shining, Elizabeth Cree, As One, Stonewall, Sanctuary Road, A Nation of Others, The Manchurian Candidate, Edward Tulane, A Thousand Acres, Unruly Sun, Later the Same Evening, Bastianello/Lucrezia, The Nefarious, Immoral but Highly Profitable Enterprise of Mr. Burke & Mr. Hare, The Cook-Off, and Songs from an Unmade Bed. In 2020, he created and funded the Campbell Opera Librettist Prize, the first award for opera librettists in the history of the art form, and in 2022 co-created the True Voice Award to help support the training of transgender singers. In 2024, the National Opera Association honored Mark with its Lifetime Achievement Award and in 2026 he was inducted into OPERA America's prestigious Hall of Fame.
